Hotmail, which is now known as Outlook was the first ever
free web-based email service that was launched back in 1995 by two computer
engineers namely Jack Smith and Sabeer Bhatia. Microsoft officially bought
Hotmail in 1997 and rebranded it as MSN (Microsoft Network)
Hotmail. Ever since Microsoft bought Hotmail it went through several name
changes like MSN Hotmail and Windows Live Hotmail now it is officially known as
Outlook.
Hotmail
gained massive popularity after it was launched because it was the first ever
web-based email service that can be accessed with any web browser and it was
free. The name, HoTMail was derived from HTML, (the language used to create basic web
pages) and mail.
How to log in to Hotmail?
Logging
in to your hotmail account is a straightforward process, to do so, follow the
steps explained below:
- Power
up your desired web browser.

Type
"www.hotmail.com" into the URL tab and hit enter.

Once
the web is loaded, click on the "Sign-in" button at the top-right
corner of the screen.

Enter
your registered Email/Phone Number and click Next.

your password and then click on the "Sign-in" button.

Phone:
Since
hotmail is a popular email service, Microsoft decided to develop Apps for
mobile phones. To log into your hotmail sign in account from Android Phone,
follow these steps:
- Open Google Play
Store and search for Hotmail (Microsoft Outlook).

and install the hotmail.com (Microsoft Outlook) app.

Open
the app, and tap on "Add Account".

Enter
your registered Email and tap on Continue.
- Next,
enter the Password and then tap on Sign in.

that is now known as Outlook also has an iPhone app, to login to your hotmail
sign in account using the iPhone app, follow these steps:
- Open
the Apple App Store and search for Hotmail (Microsoft
Outlook).

and install the hotmail.com (Microsoft Outlook) app.

the app, and tap on Get Started.

Enter
your registered Email address and tap on continue.
- Next,
enter your password and click on Sign in.
Enable Two-Factor
Authentication on Hotmail:
Two-Factor
Authentication (2FA) lets you add another level of security to your account
beyond just a username and a password, that prevents unauthorized access to
your account. To enable 2FA on your Hotmail/Outlook account,
follow these steps:
- Open
your desired web browser and visit "login.live.com".

Sign
into your account using your credentials.

On
the top right-hand of the screen, click on your profile and select "My
Profile".

On
the next page, click on "Security", then click on "Advance
Security".

You'll
be asked to verify your details.

Once
the verification is done, scroll down and under "Additional Security"
click on "Turn on" Two-step verification.

You'll
be redirected to a new page, read the guidelines carefully, and then click on
the Next button.

Underneath
"Verify My Identity", select the type of 2FA you want to enable and
select "A phone number".

After
that another field will appear, enter your details and click on Next, and
you'll get a code on your account.
- Enter
the code and click on Enable.
